Everything you need to know to enjoy your time at the Playhouse
This guide covers everything you need to know while visiting the Playhouse during the day. Staying overnight? Also read the Overnighters Guide.
🚗 Parking
Please follow signs and Respect Neighborhood Sovereignty.
⚠️ Critical Rules:
DO NOT park in front of neighbors' houses
DO NOT park or drive on the grass (sprinklers + mud = $200 tow bill)
DO NOT park on the circle or by the garage (blocks Amazon deliveries)
Where to Park
First choice: Gravel lot on the right when you enter the gate (if not full)
Second choice: Across the street, past two houses to the left, facing the highway
Overflow: Frontage road (turn left before highway), park to the right of "no parking" signs (~5 min walk)
🏠 House Rules
Food & Drink Policy
NO MEAT inside the house – You can store meat in the doghouse refrigerator (not garage) and cook it outside
NO ALCOHOL (unless it's your wedding)
Bring healthy food to share; include vegetarian options
Bring a water bottle – We have 3 filtered water dispensers. Don't bring plastic water bottles. Bottles to borrow are above the oven.
Keeping Things Tidy
Don't leave bags or items on Living Room or Kitchen counters – stash in the dining room
Don't leave beverage cans, food items, or random stuff in the living room
Clean up immediately after yourself
Can't find something? Check the "Scolding Mess Box" out back
Bathroom Etiquette
Use the Outhouse! There's a full bathroom with hot water shower in the Outhouse in the front yard – it's amazing and less crowded. Please use it when possible.
Toilets: Only toilet paper goes in toilets. Nothing else. You will wreck things.
📶 Wifi & Music
Wifi
Network: Black Rock City Password:popopopo
There are other wifi networks, but this is the only one that works with Sonos.
Playing Music
Play great music! Use Spotify Connect or the "Sonos S1" app while on Black Rock City wifi.
⚠️ Important: Be careful to select the right "room" in Sonos. Don't blast music into a room where someone is sleeping! Make sure only your room is connected.
🧖 Spa & Amenities
Sauna
Please help yourself to a sauna experience! It's easy to turn on and takes 20–40 minutes to heat up. There is also an infrared heater on the ceiling.
The sauna features the world's best sauna sound system (until proven otherwise). This is controlled in the cabinet behind the sauna, and then on Sonos.
Swim Spa
Shower first if you're sweaty – the shower is behind the swim spa (there's also a hot water shower in the Outhouse in the front yard)
Don't adjust the temperature – it takes a very long time to change, so it won't matter anyway
Close the cover when you're not using it
Cold Plunge
The cold plunge is always ready to go. Shower first if you're sweaty. Close the cover when finished.
Phone Charging
Charging stations are available throughout the house and outside if you look around.
🦙 Alpaca & Pets
🚨 CRITICAL: Always, always, always keep the back fence gates closed. Don't leave them open for a second or the Alpaca will wander off, and you may spend the rest of your life chasing lost alpaca dreams.
Alpaca Etiquette
DO NOT call them "Llamas" – They look sweet, but if they hear you call them "Llama", they will likely pull a knife and take you out – quick and silent.
Don't stare at them while eating meat outside
Dogs & Other Pets
Don't let your dog enter the Alpaca domain in the back – no matter how special they are
Tie dogs up in the front
Don't leave pets unattended anywhere on the property if not tied
Don't bring animals into the house
🔍 Be Resourceful - Don't Ask Until You Have Looked
Please look around and figure things out on your own whenever you need something:
Read the labels
Read the website
Try to guess where things are before asking someone
Don't ask where the spoons are if you haven't looked
